The Department has three microsurgical courses every month:
- Basic Course in Microsurgery
- Advanced Course in Microsurgery
- Advanced Nursing Course in Microsurgery
The aim is to provide the surgical trainee or OT nurse with programs that will expose them to:
- The handling of the microscope, microsurgical instruments and fine sutures.
- Refinement in soft tissue handling.
The courses are conducted in a laboratory based setting. This is the basis for progress in modern reconstructive surgery in the various specialties. The student instructor ratio is 2:1 or 4:1 and our clinical and technical instructors are present full time.
The programme will cater to surgical trainees in the disciplines of Hand Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Organ Transplant Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Oncologic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Opthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Urology.
Nurses that assist in Microsurgical procedures will
also benefit greatly.
